Dark Horse has explored its share of the Mass Effect universe through a number of miniseries, 8-page standalone tales and art books, to say nothing of the interactive comics players use to kick off adventures in the ME2 and ME3 titles. As announced today at Emerald City Comicon 2013, though, the franchise is finally getting an ongoing series, Mass Effect: Foundation, to be penned by ME2 and ME3 lead writer Mac Walters himself.Set for a July 24 release in comics shops and on Dark Horse Digital, Mass Effect: Foundation #1 will introduce fans of the series to "new characters tied directly to the newly announced 'Mass Effect 3: Citadel' single-player DLC," according to Dark Horse's official press release. The announcement comes just in time to coincide with the release of the Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC on March 5 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Dark Horse has yet to reveal the book's interior art team, but has posted a promotional image of two knife-wielding humans, which you can take a look at below.
