A more appropriate name for DC Comics' Convergence event, at least the miniseries that will accompany the main series for two months next spring, may be "Nostalgia Trip."

DC has been rolling out titles and creative teams for the 40 planned series week by week. The first batch focused on the publisher's pre-New 52 continuity. The second focused on the 1990s (including WildStorm), and the third seemed to center on the 1980s.

The fourth and final group of miniseries, which DC announced Tuesday, covers a much wider time period: All of DC's pre-Crisis On Infinite Earths continuity. And there's another twist: They all take place on defined and listed alternate Earths which existed before the company's last line-wide reboot in the 1980s.

Perhaps the most exciting of the bunch is a Shazam! series set on Earth-S, written by Jeff Parker and with art by Evan "Doc" Shaner, the team behind Dynamite's acclaimed Flash Gordon revival. Fans of Shaner may also remember his excellent Adventures of Superman arc with writer Ron Marz and his reams and reams of Captain Marvel/Shazam art on Tumblr and elsewhere. In many ways, this old-fashioned Shazam vs. steampunk story feels like the one Shaner was born to draw.

Other stories include a Crime Syndicate book by Brian Buccellato and Phil Winslade; a Blue Beetle mini by Scott Lobdell and Yishan Li; a Len WeinDenys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz Detective Comics series featuring the version of the Huntress that was Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle's daughter, and a Booster Gold tale by Dan JurgensAlvaro Martinez and Raul Fernandez that spans multiple Earths.

Also of note: DC One Million characters apparently make appearances, along with versions of characters from Superman: Red Son.
