The Haunting And The Love Triangle Both Come To A Boil In ‘Deadman: Dark Mansion Of Forbidden Love’ #3 [Preview]
Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love is one of the best comics coming out right now, and it looks likely to cement its status judging by this preview of the third and final issue, written by Sarah Vaughn with art by Lan Medina, and a gorgeous cover by Stephanie Hans.
As we see in these pages, Berenice finally confesses to her boyfriend Nathan and her best friend Sam that she can see and communicate with the dead, and has been able to for her whole life. Nathan doesn't believe her, even though he just got physically attacked by a ghost. Sam does believe her, even though they say they've never had a supernatural encounter of their own.
With this book being such a loving interweaving of horror and romance, it makes sense that the two would become totally intertwined at the climax. Although she doesn't say it directly in the preview, it's clear that Berenice understands how much it means that Sam is willing to believe her, and what it reveals that Nathan is not. It's been clear from the beginning that Berenice and Sam share feelings beyond friendship, and it could not be more obvious by the end of this preview that these two are, as the shippers say, "endgame."
But there's still this ghost situation to deal with. It appears that Adelia, the friendly ghost, and the evil dark spirit that attacked Nathan may be two aspects of the same being. Deadman is doing his best to figure it out, with Berenice's help. And it seems that Sam has a role to play as well, since their inability to interact with the supernatural may be a matter of something more than belief.
Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love #3 hits shelves February 8. Although it's the final issue of the mini-series, I for one am really hoping Vaughn and Medina return for a sequel. There are so many more ghosts out there that Deadman, Berenice, and Sam could use their various abilities to help or defeat, depending on what's needed.
