Fighting Fantasy Comes To Comics With ‘Ian Livingstone’s Freeway Fighter’ [Exclusive]
I've written before about how much affection I have for choosable-path adventure gamebooks, those incredible little novels full of branching paths and character sheets, but I'll admit that I never got that into the Fighting Fantasy line. They were just too hard to find, but when I was finally able to track them down as an adult, I found that they held up pretty well. Plus, the gimmick of having a picture of two six-sided dice in the corner of each page so that you could "roll" them just by flipping to a random spot in the book? That's pretty brilliant.
Now, though, as Fighting Fantasy closes in on its 35th Anniversary, Titan has announced a comic based on Ian Livingstone's Freeway Fighter. Set in a post-apocalyptic world of high-octane action that's more than a little reminiscent of Mad Max, the comic features a brand new adventure from Andi Ewington, Simon Coleby, and Len O'Grady --- and you can check out a preview below!

Spinning out of the legendary Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks created by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson in 1982, the post-apocalyptic Freeway Fighter distinguished itself by deviating from the usual mix of orcs, goblins and cave- trolls. Celebrating 35 years in 2017, Fighting Fantasy brought together choice driven storytelling with a dice-based role-playing system to create a world in which “YOU are the hero!” The series sold over 18 million copies worldwide and is translated in over 30 languages.
In the new comics series, an unknown virus has wiped out over 85% of the world’s human population. Former I-400 Driver Bella De La Rosa is one of the 15% - living every day as if it were her last. Now, eighteen months after the collapse of civilization, faced with a new world order where violence and chaos rule the Freeway, she must hone her racing skills and survive any way she can!
