Lego has never been at a shortage of simple and easy sets for its fans to build. Sure the more extravagant pieces get all the attention, but sometimes you just want a budget-friendly little set for your desk to show off your construction skills. This past San Diego Comic-Con saw Lego take that idea even farther, and offer small character building sets in the vein of Funko Pops called Lego Brickheadz.

Originally only available as two-packs exclusively at SDCC, the Lego Brickheadz are finally available for the rest of the collecting public. Featuring some of your favorite characters from the Marvel and DC universes, Lego Brickheadz might finally give Funko a run for its money in the emotionless pop culture figure arena.

Kicking off the first series are Batman, The Lego Batman Movie versions of Batgirl, Robin and the Joker, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow and the Hulk. Beauty and the Beast's Belle and Beast are also part of the series, but they aren't superheroes, so they don't really count. Batman was part of the SDCC offerings, but it was a more traditional gray and blue iteration, and this new one is the all black from the 1989 film. Strangely, Superman, Wonder Woman, Doctor Strange and Black Panther --- all of which were part of SDCC sets --- are nowhere to be found. Perhaps they'll make the cut for series two.

All the sets are rather cleverly constructed and cute. There's no articulation like there are with some of the figures in Lego's Star Wars Constraction sets. That's okay though. These are much smaller (each figure is only about 2" tall), and much cheaper. For $9.99 you get a nice collectible that won't take up too much space on your desk and that looks stylish. If you think Lego sets are stylish, anyway.

The first series of Lego Brickheadz are available exclusively through February 28 for Lego VIP members at $9.99 each. Starting on March 1, the sets will be available to everyone.
