Marvel Unveils Latest Line Of Cosplay Variants Featuring Squirrel Girl, Gwenpool And More

Last October, Marvel embraced the creative world of cosplay with an awesome line of Cosplay Variants featuring dedicated fans geared up as their favorite superhero, gracing the cover of that character's comic. It seems like the line was so popular that it's getting a second outing, as Marvel has unveiled the first look at this year's round of Cosplay Variants, debuting in stores from September.

The cosplay community has been vital to the increasing popularity of comic books, and especially Big Two superhero comics, and it provides a means of expression and celebration that has been sidelined in the culture for decades. Every convention you go to now has some of the most elaborate and intricately designed costumes you'll ever see, all crafted by dedicated fans with a passion for comics, cartoons and video games.

In a press release provided by Marvel, editor in chief Axel Alonso said, "The response to our first set of Cosplay Variants was so incredible, we simply had to do a second wave/ And, of course, we were able to find a great crop of cosplayers with some truly fantastic costumes. We're thrilled to shine a spotlight on an ever-growing community that continues to show love for us and our characters.”

It's especially cool to see The Unbelievable Gwenpool get a Cosplay Variant, as Gwenpool is a character that was popularized through cosplay. The aesthetic blending of Deadpool and Spider-Gwen led to a completely new character with one of the most fun and heartwarming comics on the stands right now, which just goes to show the power of cosplay.
