Debuting in August is Mystic, the new Marvel Comics series written by G. Willow Wilson, the critically acclaimed co-author of the graphic novel Cairo and the Vertigo series Air. Joined by penciller David López and colorist Nathan Fairbairn, Wilson tells the story of a fantastic city called Hyperion where magic and science are one in the same. Mystic focuses in on two citizens of Hyperion, the orphan girls Genevieve and Giselle, whose destinies will pull them to opposing positions and philosophies in a rivalry that may destroy Hyperion completely. One of the Crossgen series relaunched by Marvel Comics since Disney's acquisition of the defunct publisher, Mystic caught ComicsAlliance's eye for what should be obvious reasons: G. Willow Wilson and artist M.K. Perker created with Cairo one of the best Vertigo graphic novels of the last few years, telling a fantastical story about the Middle East informed by Wilson's experience as a journalist in Egypt; and the Mystic artwork by David López and Nathan Fairbairn is just seriously beautiful.

Mystic #1 goes on sale in August but can be pre-ordered now at your local comics store (just ask them to grab you a copy, no big deal) or online at Things From Another World.

Check out a Mystic preview and some production artwork below.

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at Mystic #1, from writer G. Willow Wilson and rising star penciller David López featuring the lush colors of artist Nathan Fairbairn . The fate of a world powered by the combination of mystic arts and technology rests in the hands of two seemingly ordinary orphan girls. The impoverished slums of Hyperion are no place for two young girls to grow up, but when the two dare to delve into the Noble Arts, their world is turned upside down! With new, incredible powers granted by the magical technology once forbidden to them, one girl will take up the massive burden of saving the world and the other will direct all her efforts to tearing it apart! Two girls are about to enter the fight of their lives filled with magic and mayhem and only one will come out on top! The line is drawn this August, only in Mystic #1!
