The ComicsAlliance Roundtable On Politics & Comics
Does politics belong in comics? Can comics influence politics? And what impact do we expect the election of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States to have on the comic industry and on the stories it tells over the next four years? ComicsAlliance contributors Elle Collins, Kieran Shiach, Tom Speelman, and Tara Marie join editor-in-chief Andrew Wheeler for a roundtable discussion about the relationship between politics and comics.

Ms. Marvel #13, by G. Willow Wilson and Mirka Andolfo, finds Kamala Khan and her friends going door to door on election day, encouraging people to vote. The timing feels slightly off, since the issue's not out until November 30, but at least we have this preview of the scene for you now, while it's still relevant to our real lives.

Before Ms. Marvel was a superhero, she was a fan. A superhero fan specifically, writing fanfic for the internet's consumption about the Avengers and other heroes. That's a big reason she was so excited to become a hero, and even more excited when she was asked to join the Avengers at the beginning of All-New All-Different Avengers. Now readers of that series get to dive into that world with her in All-New All-Different Avengers Annual #1. The book features "fan fiction" stories of the Marvel universe written by G. Willow Wilson, Mark Waid, Natasha Allegri, Faith Erin Hicks, Scott Kurtz, and Zac Gorman, and features art by Allegri, Hicks, Kurtz, Mahmud Asrar, Chip Zdarsky, and Jay Fosgitt. It seems like just the relief we all need from the grimness of Civil War II, and it goes on sale August 10.

Kamala Khan is going to have to take sides in Civil War II. In fact, I keep hearing that everyone is. The crossover is coming to Ms. Marvel's doorstep with issue #8 of her current series. The "Civil War Reenactiment" variant cover pretty clearly positions her as the Spider-Man of this version (meaning the initially naive character who switches sides), although the scene of her unmasking is presumably just a reference to that, and not something that will happen this time around.

The Band Gets Back together in 'A-Force' #1 [Preview]
A-Force, an all-woman take on the Avengers written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett with art by Jorge Molina, was one of the most anticipated books of the Secret Wars crossover. Of course, it didn't turn out to be quite what readers expected, since Battleworld was populated with alternate versions of everyone's favorite characters, rather than the originals. But now that Secret Wars is over (or at least, soon will be) Wilson and Molina are giving us exactly what we wanted: a team of powerful women set in our preferred Marvel Universe. The new A-Force #1 will be available January 6th and features Singularity, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Dazzler, Medusa, and Nico Minoru.
