It may seem hard to believe, but Marvel has now completed two phases of films, ending Phase Two with Ant-Man before entering Phase Three next summer with Captain America: Civil War. The new MCU kicked off back in 2008 with Iron Man and ended with the first Avengers in 2012 — which already seems so, so long ago. As we prepare for Avengers: Age of Ultron to hit Blu-ray and DVD, one fan has put together this 10-minute retrospective looking back on the films of Phase One.

The video comes from Jakub Ignarski (via The Playlist) and gives us a nice, long look back at Marvel’s Phase One. That phase of MCU films gave us Iron Man and Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, and lest you forget — The Incredible Hulk.

What stands out about this super cut is how much things have changed in the MCU since 2008, when a movie like Iron Man was seen as a risk. Looking at Phase Two’s offerings, you can see how much more confident Marvel became in its own properties and superheroes, allowing for the weirdness of Guardians of the Galaxy to swoop in and wow audiences. Also of note is how much better looking the films have gotten, owing to increased budgets.

Now that Phase Two has come to an end, it might be interesting to see a follow-up retrospective along these lines to show us the next step in Marvel’s evolution.
