Now, I don't want to alarm anyone, but the holiday shopping season is just a little more than a week away. Some of you may be loaded as the result of a floundering importing business (I hear spices from Zanzibar are really hot right now), but the more miserly among us may be into Marvel's latest subscription offer, which promises substantial savings to gift-givers.

Before I get ahead of myself, I should mention that it's a Facebook exclusive - you have to visit Marvel on the social networking site. But since that effectively costs you nothing but a few minutes, the deal is pretty much for everyone with Internet access.

The long and short of the deal is it will only cost you $35 to subscribe to any two offered Marvel titles for a full year (the titles are: "Captain America," "Invincible Iron Man," "Thor," "Hulk" and "Marvel Super Hero Squad"). That's about $1.40 an issue, which as any shopper knows borders on more than half off to two-thirds off the regular cover price of an issue in the direct market. The deal ends on November 25, however, meaning it precedes the true day after Thanksgiving entirely.

I've mentioned my relative astonishment at subscription savings here before, but this really does seem like a good way to cut some costs and gift yourself and others with comics. Maybe you could also hook some kids in the family to this comic addiction we all share in, eh?
