On sale this week is the first issue of Moon Knight. A Marvel Comics mainstay since his introduction in the 1970s, the schizophrenic superhero has been retooled by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, the fan-favorite creative team who returned the Daredevil character to prominence in a legendary series from the last decade. In the new book, Moon Knight uses his multiple personalities as a strength, going so far as to develop additional idioms based on his fellow Avengers.

You can check out a preview of Moon Knight #1 below.Marc Spector was a mercenary whose dark past caused him to create alternate personalities in addition to his Moon Knight persona, which he saw as a manifestation of the Egyptian god Khonshu. In Bendis and Maleev's new series, Spector has moved to Los Angeles, where he shrewdly produces a television show based on his own adventures as Moon Knight while he continues to fight his war on evil. The City of Angels itself is crucial to Marvel's new vision of the character, as Bendis explained in an interview with Comic Book Resources.

"In the opening arc you'll get a reintroduction to Marc Spector. You'll find out why he's in LA and how he got there. You'll see how his new status quo is represented visually and how it affects his life. You'll see how he's going to go about making a name for himself. We'll be introduced to the new cast and everywhere he goes he's going to get closer and closer to discovering who the Kingpin of LA is. Hint: it's an established character. The big question, though, is what is their master plan and why do they need an Ultron?"

Bendis and Maleev's work on the Daredevil series is superlative. They discuss the new Moon Knight with a similarly epic scope, making issue #1 something we're definitely going to check out. You can pick Moon Knight #1 up this Wednesday at comics shops everywhere or purchase it online from Things From Another Word.
