Prime 1’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Will Cost You a Radical Sum
Earlier this year we got a tease of Prime 1 Studio's plans for the 1990 cinematic classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but there had been little movement on the statues since then. The good news is, the collection of everyone's favorite amphibious heroes has a release date. The bad news is, it's going to cost you as much as 287 large, three-topping pizzas from Domino's. That's a lotta cheese.
The massive set is actually four separate statues (which you can also buy individually), with Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael all coming in around 16-17" tall. Leonardo and his rooftop base come in at just over 20" tall. Apart from one another, the statues are really tremendous in their own right. All four Turtles are brought to life with some stunning screen accuracy, which they had better at $575 a piece. Together though, the statues go from cool little display piece to monument of radical proportions.
I mean, I love the seminal 1990 masterpiece as much as anyone else, but even I'm not quite sure I love it enough to own these statues more than a used 2004 Dodge Caravan SXT, which I could then turn into my own Turtle Van. That might be problematic for my neighbors though. Still, that's a hefty investment to make before even thinking about the proper display area. You can see that the base has a diameter of about 30" based on the height of the figures (give or take for those odd angles). If you're dropping two mortgage payments on this collection, you better damn sure have a primo pedestal to make them the centerpiece of whatever room they end up in. You certainly wouldn't split them up, you know, unless you were some kind of monster.
The complete set of Prime 1 Studio Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set is available for pre-order now from Sideshow Collectibles for $2299.99. If you purchase the full set, you also get a Shredder mask and wooden nunchuck accessories to add to the base. The individual figures can be pre-ordered for $574.99 each. It works out to be the same price either way. Any or all of the statues are expected to arrive by February 2017.
