Frank Castle Still Not Over Dead Family In Cloonan And Dillon’s ‘The Punisher’ #1 [Preview]

The Punisher hasn’t been this popular since his early nineties days of stealing jet-skis and kissing them goodbye, thanks to Jon Bernthal’s nuanced portrayal of Frank Castle in Netflix’s Daredevil. Next month sees the return of The Punisher with a brand new ongoing by Becky Cloonan and Steve Dillon that sees Frank as both the hunter and the hunted after a botched drug deal sends the DEA after Castle.

While most fans of superhero comics will know Cloonan’s writing best from DC’s Gotham Academy, her self-published work minicomics like Wolves and Demeter display a visceral brutality and emotional vulnerability that make her a perfect fit for The Punisher. Steve Dillon is perhaps one of the greatest Punisher artists of all time, having collaborated with the likes of Garth Ennis on Marvel Knights: Punisher and Jason Aaron on PunisherMAX.
