Doctor Strange Opens a Portal Into the Action Figure World of SH Figuarts
Though it may be a little behind the theatrical release of Doctor Strange's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, SH Figuarts won't be too far off from the home video release with its newest action figure. Then again, SH Figuarts is often just a tad bit beyond the curve when it comes to timeliness in action figure releases. When the figures are as impressive as the typical Figuarts release is though, the wait is more than worth it. That looks to hold true here for Doctor Strange as well.
I've still yet to see the actual movie myself, but I've definitely seen enough of the footage to know that this is a fantastic recreation of the movie iteration of Stephen Strange. The Benedict Cumberbatch likeness is very good, and both portraits offer just enough of a difference to give the figure dramatically different attitudes. Strange is all about the clothing though, and what SH Figuarts has done here to bring the cloak and robes to life is rather nice. There are no soft goods, but the soft plastic leaves the figure very poseable, and it looks like there might be just enough articulation in the cape to continue providing solid counter-balance in any stance.
There will be spell effects included as well, with options to pose them around the hands, or in the case of his right hand, have the spell looking like it's coming out of his palm. The different spell-casting hands should give you some nice options when putting Strange on a shelf alongside the Figuarts Avengers you've already collected, though I'm still not sure that would help him against the Hulk. Don't expect the actual toy to have any illumination effects though. Those are just for fancy photos.
The SH Figuarts Doctor Strange Doctor Strange figure will go up for pre-order on Jan. 13 for ~$57, and is expected to arrive in June 2017.
