If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

This week we're counting down the five weirdest members of that army of teenagers from the future, the Legion of Super-Heroes! The Legion is notorious for having a just completely ludicrous number of members, especially if you include their ancillary teams like the Legion of Substitute Heroes and the Legion of Super-Pets. Just by the law of averages alone, there's bound to be a few weirdos in there, but once you throw in the fact that the team debuted at the height of the Silver Age and featured stories by noted oddballs Otto Binder, Cary Bates, and a 14-year-old Jim Shooter, the odds of getting a strange one basically skyrocket. This list picks out five of the weirdest.

Show notes:

  • If you don't know anything about the Legion at all, you can give yourself a primer with this video about the team's history.
  • You can see the early adventures of the whole team, including the characters in the number five, three, and one positions in this Silver Age Omnibus.
  • You can see the first appearances of the characters in the number four and two spots here.
