
Parting Shot: 80-Foot Superman Thanksgiving Parade Balloon from 1940

With the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade about to fill the sky once again with monstrous, flying versions of our favorite pop culture mascots, here's a look at an enormous Superman parade balloon floating through Times Square square back in the day. As a clipping from the November 19, 1940 column in The New York Times explained, the fully-inflated Superman stood at 80 feet tall with a chest 23 feet across. [via The Retroist]
