Suicide Squad is a film about DC super-villains tasked with defeating something more evil than their sinister forces combined, so we weren’t exactly expecting a bunch of those pesky superheroes to show up and spoil their fun. We already knew that Ben Affleck’s Batman has a small role in David Ayer’s movie, but apparently there’s another DC superhero making a surprise appearance. Spoilers ahead, obviously.

Earlier this month, Warner Bros. was reportedly eyeing a few actresses for the female lead in The Flash solo movie from director Rick Famuyiwa. The shortlist included pop star Rita Ora, Sing Street breakout Lucy Boynton and, perhaps most interesting of all, Kiersey Clemons — who previously appeared in Famuyiwa’s indie hit Dope. It looks like Clemons and Famuyiwa will work together again, as the actress has officially taken the lead opposite Ezra Miller in the Scarlet Speedster’s new film.

The flurry of Comic-Con 2016 afforded us our first look at the big-screen Justice League all suited up, while a few doors down saw DC’s TV heroes similarly previewing their next appearances. TV Flash Grant Gustin even had a chance to check out his big-screen counterpart’s Flash-ier costume, noting that the CW version had more of a “street, vintage” feel.

Warner Bros. kicked things off pretty strong during today’s Comic-Con panel in Hall H, debuting a fantastic new trailer for the Wonder Woman solo movie, followed by a special sneak peek at Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In addition to screening footage from the first installment in the two-part film series, WB premiered an official photo featuring the full superhero lineup, giving us a better idea of what these characters will look like when they’re finally united.

The Flash’s big screen debut finally has a director.

By now you’ve seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and if you haven’t, then you’re still probably well-aware of the Justice League cameos — they weren’t exactly kept secret, after all (Warner Bros. even spilled the details of The Flash’s cameo to EW weeks ago). In any case, it looks like we may see two of those characters team up in a film separate from the Justice League movies, as Batman v Superman producer Deborah Snyder reiterates that #NotAllDCMovies will have the same gritty tone.

Close to a decade into Marvel’s extended cinematic universe, we’re conditioned to want our favorite heroes to share the screen, just as in comics. DC has made little apology of taking a different approach, and while both Arrow and Flash stars alike have chimed in on being overlooked to join the big-screen Justice League, Zack Snyder now explains that the CW Flash just wouldn’t fit the DCEU’s tone.

There’s been a lot of news out of the DC movie universe this week, including new details on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and its forthcoming R-rated Ultimate Edition, as well as more intel on Warner Bros.’ plans for their slate of superhero films. There was one interesting detail that was easy to overlook in this huge info dump, but it’s something we’ve been curious about for a while: How does Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen / The Flash fit into Batman v Superman?

DC stars of The CW have often found themselves walking thin lines against the cinematic Justice League’s decision to reboot continuity with different actors, as Stephen Amell has defended multiple comments on taking Arrow to the big screen, or DC announcing Ezra Miller’s Flash within days of The CW premiere. Now, Grant Gustin himself is in the hot seat, defending accusations of decrying Miller’s Barry Allen.

In case you missed DC’s Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW last night, the company’s own Geoff Johns premiered some new concept art for Justice League and its characters while also re-confirming Green Lantern Corps. as another upcoming addition to the DCU. Warner Bros. released one piece of concept art featuring the JL lineup yesterday, but these new videos give us an even better look at designs for Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.
