Joe and Anthony Russo are slowly turning into the kings of comic books in Hollywood; not only have they directed two smash-hit Captain America movies, they're slated to direct the next two Avengers films and are attached to produce a film based on Kyle Starks' Sexcastle. Announced today during San Diego Comic Con, the brothers with the Midas touch will next turn their attention back to the small screen --- where they made their names on shows like Community and Arrested Development --- to adapt Image Comics' Deadly Class.
Good news for fans of stories about stabbing, nunchucks, Road House and puns: Sexcastle, the original graphic novel by Kyle Starks that is pretty heavily involved with all of those things, has been picked up by Fox to be made into a film. As revealed in an announcement at Deadline, it's set to be directed by Kyle Newacheck and produced by Mike Larocca and Anthony and Joe Russo. Blake Anderson is set to star as Shane Sexcastle, an assassin who retired from killing and moved to a small town, and --- as you might expect --- ended up having to kill a whole lot of people anyway.
Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo cemented themselves as successful comics-to-film directors this summer with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but the team's been working with Capote in Kansas and Union Station writer Ande Parks for the better part of the past six years forging Cuidad with artist Fernando León González for Oni Press. While the movie is still in production at Sierra Pictures, Oni's finally ready to reveal the cover for the upcoming graphic novel, which promises hyperviolent action set in a fictionalized version of Paraguay's Ciudad del Este. Get your first look after the cut.
