Lex Luthor

Luthor's never met a Superman (or anyone else) that he didn't try to manipulate. So it's not really a surprise when he shows up at the headquarters of the Chinese Justice League in New Super-Man #9, to take Kong on a trip to Metropolis.

Q: Is it possible that Lex Luthor is actually in love with Superman? Is it the reason for his obsession and jealousy? — @RedEarth18 A: No. Don't get me wrong: As much as it's been overused and misapplied over the years, the trope of a villain who's lashing out at a hero through some twisted kind of love isn't exactly one that I'm opposed to. It can be the source of some genuinely great storytelling, like Noelle Stevenson's Nimona, and it adds a lot of layers to villains that you don't often see in straightforward adventure stories where someone wants to punch someone else because they robbed the Crossword Puzzle Museum. I just don't think it works for Lex.

Supergirl had already promised the return of one metallic baddie in February’s “Luthors,” but might an armored Lex be far behind? That’s at least partly the insinuation in next weeks’ trailer, as the famous Luthor power armor is teased among other weapons.

Superman is not only one of the greatest superheroes of all time, but he set the standard for everything that followed, and as such many of his villains are just as iconic and archetypal. With a roster of baddies stretching back to the late '30s, it's going to be tough to narrow it down, but we need to know who The Man of Tomorrow's ultimate enemies are!

Some kids grow up idolizing superheroes. Others, however, can't get enough of fictional scientists like Doctor Doom, Lex Luthor, and Dr. Frankenstein. As the first and greatest superhero of them all, it only stands to reason that Superman would be leading the charge with some of the wildest and weirdest comics of the time. His amazing list of super-powers allowed him to have crazy adventures that many other characters couldn’t dream of having, but he also got strange new (but often very short-lived) powers to let the creators go even crazier with him. All of which leads us to why you’re really here, to see this gallery of panels from Silver Age Superman comics presented completely without context. Some are weird, some are wacky, some are befuddling, but they’re all pretty fun, and the best part is this is just the teeniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg when it comes to Silver Age insanity. The DC Universe doesn’t lack for some of the most iconic heroes and heroines in comics. So it’s a good thing for the baddies that the DC Universe also has its share of great and heinous villains.
