Fantastic Five: Marvel Deaths
Fantastic Five: Marvel Deaths
Fantastic Five: Marvel Deaths
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics. There's nothing fun about the topic, but death is unquestionably a huge part of superhero comics, and this week we're looking at five of the deaths that had the most profound effect on the Marvel Universe.

Superhero Color Theory: Secondary Characters

Superhero Color Theory: Secondary Characters
Last time in Superhero Color Theory we explained why our main heroes look the way they do. Now it's time to look at the secondary colors and how they often, but not always, signal the presence of a bad guy. Obviously it makes the most sense visually, that to stand apart from a primary colored (red/blue/yellow) hero, you want a secondary colored (purple/green/orange) one. But what do these colors tell us about what type of character the heroes are encountering?

You're a Marvel, Marvel Girl: The Best Jean Grey Fan Art Ever
Whether your first Jean was the Marvel Girl in her green gogo dress, the Phoenix (who we were later told wasn't Jean, but let's be real it was basically Jean), the hyper competent blue-headsock-wearing Jean of the '90s comic and cartoon, or the cool black leather Jean of the turn of the Century (whether drawn by Frank Quitely or played by Famke Janssen) --- it's hard not to be excited about this next era of the character. To celebrate that, we've put together some of the best Jean Grey fan art on the web. Some of it looks like Sophie Turner, some of it features various looks from the comics, and some of it is entirely new. Phoenix, Marvel Girl, or just going by Jean, she's one of the first ladies of Marvel Comics as well as one of the most powerful, and this artwork celebrates that.

The Replacements: Jean Grey And The Legacy Of The Phoenix
Since the dawn of the Silver Age, legacy characters have been a staple of superhero fiction, and having a new character step into a well loved roll can open up new opportunities for writers and artists to tell different kinds of stories. In The Replacements, we’ll look back at the notable and not-so-notable heroes and villains to assume some of the most iconic mantles in the superhero genre. This week, in honor of Mutant Week, we’re looking at the X-Men’s most storied legacy position. That’s right, we’re looking at the women, men, and clones who have at one time or another called themselves Phoenix.

The Great Super-Costume Poll: Supergals
Costume design is one of the great strengths of the superhero genre, a way to establish distinctive visual shorthand for a character and reveal key details about concept, purpose, and personality. But which is the best superhero costume of all time? This month, we’re asking you to decide, by voting up your favorites and voting down the rest. When we have your votes, we’ll compile a list of the greatest super-costumes of all time. For the penultimate day of polls, we're offering up a selection of some of the standout female superhero costumes from the past sixty years, designed by George Perez, Jim Lee, Al Plastino and more. From Rogue's jacket to Supergirl's mini skirt, these are some famous looks --- but are they classics, or embarrassments?
