Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is an overlooked and underrated classic that ran in multiple forms from 2004-2007, and broke the mold for what a superhero comic released by a major publisher could be. Originally by writer Sean McKeever and artist Takeshi Miyazawa, the series followed the day-to-day high school drama of Mary Jane Watson and her friends as they dated, fell out, and made up, while Spider-Man and The Vulture occasionally crashed their homecoming game. One could call it low-stakes storytelling, but stakes are a matter of perspective. Great drama can be found anywhere.

Kamala Khan is going to have to take sides in Civil War II. In fact, I keep hearing that everyone is. The crossover is coming to Ms. Marvel's doorstep with issue #8 of her current series. The "Civil War Reenactiment" variant cover pretty clearly positions her as the Spider-Man of this version (meaning the initially naive character who switches sides), although the scene of her unmasking is presumably just a reference to that, and not something that will happen this time around.

Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa's Kickstarter campaign for ABC Disgusting has been pretty steady with providing stretch goals ever since they made their initial funding a while back, including the very tempting offer to get Pak himself to eat and drink super-gross stuff inspired by the book. Very, very tempting. Look into it. If, however, you're not into seeing the writer of Action Comics make himself sick with a mayonnaise milkshake, there's another goal they announced today that might be a little more palatable: An illustrated chapter book about the stars of ABC Disgusting going on a hunt for giant monsters called Kaiju Clubhouse.

It wasn't that long ago that we brought you the announcement of ABC Disgusting, a new alphabetical picture book from Action Comics writer Greg Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa that's currently being funded on Kickstarter. This week, the project met its goal, and in celebration of that fact, Pak sent us a set of preview pages featuring lettering by comics veteran Simon Bowland! Comics readers are probably most familiar with Greg Pak as the writer of DC's Action Comics and Batman/Superman, but over the past year, he's been making an interesting move into an entirely new field: Children's books. After launching a Kickstarter for a picture book version of The Princess Who Saved Herself, based on the Jonathan Coulton song of the same name, Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa are teaming up once again for a new project: ABC Disgusting, an alphabetical chronicle of a young boy trying his best to gross out his sister. This week, Pak and Miyazawa launched a new Kickstarter to fund ABC Disgusting, and I talked to him about why he wanted to take on a different medium, his thoughts on the grossest elements of the book, and how many farts readers can expect. And in case you can't wait for the answer to that last one, I can assure you: So many farts.

Last week, we interviewed Greg Pak and Jonathan Coulton about their new Kickstarter with artist Takeshi Miyazawa. A spin-off of sorts of their 2013 campaign for Code Monkey Save World, this one was meant to bring a children's book adaptation of Coulton's The Princess Who Saved Herself into print. If you remember how that original campaign ended with them reaching almost ten times their original goal --- or if you remember that Coulton is one of the most successful independent musicians around thanks to his extremely loyal fan-base --- it won't surprise you to learn that the campaign already soared $45,000 past its initial goal in its first week; but there's another reason that people are jumping on. The book is already done, and as the eight-page preview we've got below shows, it looks awesome.

If you're familiar with Coulton, it probably won't surprise you to learn that the campaign blew through its $39,000 goal in less than twelve hours, and went on to blow through a bunch of stretch goals --- one of which included Pak and Miyazawa producing a children's book based on Coulton's "The Princess Who Saved Herself."
