After some years without a proper original video game (even if there were about half a dozen released in 2009), Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo are headed to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Steam this summer in Activision and Red Fly Studios' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

A firm release date hasn't been established just yet, but Activision has spelled out that the downloadable third-person brawler will support up to four-players (one for each turtle) via standard and online co-op play. From the looks of the trailer the game will probably be rooted in Nickelodeon's current CG animated series lore, although fans will note that although character designs are consistent, the game's style skews quite a bit more "realistic" than the cartoon.

Red Fly has a pretty strong record when it comes to comic book/licensed games, having worked on Thor: God of Thunder for the Nintendo DS and the Ghostbusters: The Video Game for the PlayStation 2, PSP and Wii in recent years, so fans can probably count on a competent or better gaming experience this summer.
