Talking to Marvel actors about their upcoming projects is always a game of inches. Each actor is unlikely to break a brand new story off the cuff, so instead, you try and firm up rumors that have leaked from the production. For Tom Holland, this means a few simple questions about the production experience on Spider-Man: Homecoming and one big one: will Spider-Man be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

This past weekend, Holland sat down with Variety (via Heroic Hollywood) at the New York Film Festival to talk about the premiere of his newest film, The Lost City of Z. As part of the conversation, of course, the talk turned to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the experience of acting in a full body costume:

The suit’s not the greatest thing, but sometimes when it’s uncomfortable, you just have to remind yourself of the long list of actors that would love to be in that suit and you just go, ‘do you know what, f --- it. I’m the luckiest kid alive. I deserve to be here and I’m going to give it my best.’

With Holland quite famously showing off his athletic skills in a series of homemade videos as part of his Marvel audition, Variety also asked the actor how often he was allowed to do his own action sequences in the movie. The answer, not surprisingly, was less than you’d think:

I did as many [of the stunts] as I could, but there are some things legally that I couldn’t do. There were stunt doubles who were all very, very talented guys who really supported me throughout the process. Whenever there was a stunt that I didn’t necessarily feel comfortable about, they would step in and show my how to do it, and coach me through the process.

Finally, Variety asked Holland if his version of Spider-Man might be joining the Avengers sometime in the near future. It’s a valid question, especially with actors like Robert Downey Jr. about to age themselves out of an everyday role in the franchise. Holland’s answer was, of course, very careful:

It’s all up in the air. I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.

Kudos to Tom Holland for being a good sport about answering Marvel questions even while premiering a brand new film at a prestigious film festival. Here’s hoping that all his hard work will pay off on the screen.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
