The addition of Ghost Rider seemingly confirmed that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. intended to skew darker with Season 4's timeslot move to 10:00 P.M., though one has to wonder what a more adult version of the show looks like. According to the cast and crew, Season 4 will very much have an “after dark” feel, apparently with a heaping helping of sideboob.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment, as at least portions of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast’s Comic-Con interview with TVLine should be seen in jest, but showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen seemed very much to acknowledge questions of ABC pushing the series to embrace its later timeslot:

Maurissa Tancharoen: We do have the opportunity to go sexier. […]

You can push the boundaries more now? You’ve gotten that directive from ABC?

Maurissa Tancharoen: Yes, absolutely, to embrace the 10 P.M. … The whole tagline for this year is “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. After Dark.”

Clark Gregg: Hashtag #Sideboob. We’re giving you “The Espionage Girlfriend and Boyfriend Experience.”

That last bit from Gregg proved especially prescient, as when asked to clarify Tancharoen’s earlier talk of going “sexier,” the near-unanimous chorus shouted in one direction: “sideboob.”

How sexy are we getting? What are we showing?

[Talking over one another]

Elizabeth Henstridge: Sideboob, cleavage …

Maurissa Tancharoen: Sideboob.

Jeph Loeb: A lot of FitzSimmons, I can tell you that.

Clark Gregg: Sideboob. Man and woman sideboob.

Chloe Bennet seemed to corroborate as much when asked to describe the premiere (in one word, no less), rattling off “Hot, hot hot … fire, Ghost Rider, more sexy-time, definitely more body-showing.” Not that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was ever particularly wholesome (some of those Hive visuals got pretty gruesome in Season 3), but there you have it. Team S.H.I.E.L.D. will join the annals of Marvel’s Netflix series, pioneers of unexpected sideboob.

We’ll see for ourselves when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 premieres in its new timeslot on September 20, but what should we make of its “after dark” approach?
