Batman: Arkham Knight’s Opening Scenes Revealed
If you're paying attention, the opening scenes of Batman: Arkham Knight could potentially give away a major plot reveal later on. Nevertheless, welcome to Gotham. We hope you like crimes and capes.
For anyone worried about spoilers, you really shouldn't be reading an article titled "Batman: Arkham Knight's Opening Scenes Revealed" (there's our warning). Rocksteady posted the first few minutes of Arkham Knight online to show what has happened since the ending of Batman: Arkham City. The intro starts off with narrations by Commissioner James Gordon, voiced by Jonathan Banks of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame. The game actually begins with The Joker's corpse being cremated, with Gordon mentioning how he flicked the switch and burned the clown's remains himself. After The Joker's demise, Gordon was preparing for the inevitable war that would come from the remaining criminal kingpins of Gotham contending for The Joker's territory, but those fights never came.
The intro cuts to a scene of a random Gotham City police officer entering Pauli's Diner (potential Arkham Knight spoilers ahead). At around the 2:25 mark of the video, the police officer sits down at the counter and a missing persons sign can be seen on the refrigerator in front of him. The person missing is named Henry Adams, and his haircut looks an awful lot like Mr. J's. Henry Adams... H.A., HA, get it? The officer then gets asked to deal with a customer smoking. The smoke turns out to be Scarecrow's fear toxin and the person at the table appears to be some kind of monster. The person carved the letter "A" into the table, which suggests he's one of Anarky's men united under Scarecrow's leadership. The officer sees that everyone around him has been transformed into monsters as well and starts opening fire on the demons who are actually the poisoned and confused patrons of the diner.
Batman: Arkham Knight will launch for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Please note that the Batmobile Collector's Edition of the game has been cancelled.
