'Daredevil' Bosses Address Frank Miller's Elektra Criticism

Daredevil fans finally got their wish with news that Season 2 would feature famous Marvel femme fatale Elektra, though character creator Frank Miller revealed himself none-too-enthused with the prospect, denouncing any take but his own. Word naturally reached Season 2 showrunners Doug Petrie and Marcos Ramirez, who now seem to have taken the criticism in stride.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Petrie kept diplomatic by reiterating his overall respect for Frank Miller’s work, and declining to incense the conflict any further:

God bless him, it’s his prerogative. I’m a huge fan of what he did, so the [criticism] doesn’t go both ways. I wouldn’t say, ‘What does Frank Miller know?’ I’m so inspired by him and what he achieved and I’m trying to take it further and enrich her. She’s an empowered woman with her own agency, she’s nobody’s victim.

The controversy began when Miller responded to fan inquiry that he hadn’t yet partaken of Netflix’s Daredevil series, despite his own comic work heavily influencing its design. As for Elodie Yung’s arrival as Season 2's Elektra “they can call it whatever you want, but it will not be the real Elektra … Yes, I’m her father.”

Elsewhere of Daredevil Season 2, we know for sure that Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to reprise her role as Claire Temple, along with Scott Glenn’s Stick. In addition to Elodie Yung’s Elektra and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, past Bullseye reports listed Marvel’s Mister Fear and Spider-Man villain Mysterio as potential villains for the season as well, though no confirmations have emerged. Drew Goddard remains aboard as a consultant, though the series has changed showrunners from Steven DeKnight to Marco Rodriguez and Doug Petrie.
