DC ‘Powerless’ NBC Comedy Adds ‘Firefly,’ ‘Community’ Alum and More
We’re still on the fence over DC’s intent to script an NBC comedy about Powerless insurance adjusters, even after yesterday’s casting of Vanessa Hudgens, but the latest additions certainly help. Not only has Firefly favorite Alan Tudyk signed on, but so too has Community alum Danny Pudi and actor Christina Kirk.
The single-camera series is described as an Office-type comedy without any actual superheroes, set at “one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. The show is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of superheroes and villains.”
Alan Tudyk will play Del, Emily (Hudgens)’s new boss, as well as the company owner’s son and “a power-mad disastrous dictator of a boss,” while Pudi will play Teddy, Emily’s best work friend, trusted confidante and office prankster. Kirk will play Jackie, superhero fan and assistant to Tudyk’s Del, buckling under the pressure.
A to Z alum Ben Queen will shepherd the series, executive producing with pilot director Michael Patrick Jann. Pilot production will commence in the coming weeks, but is Powerless off to a super start?
