In one of the many shocking announcements hitting the comics internet today, DC has unveiled their next "Green Lantern" event. After the "Brightest Day"... comes the "Gladys Knight."

"We're so excited to be bringing Gladys home to the DC Universe where she belongs," said a DC representative. "This is something we've had in the works for years, and definitely not, as you may have heard, something that we have to do because we lost a bet to former Pip Merald 'Bubba' Knight."According to the press release, the 11-time Grammy Award-winning Empress of Soul will be joining Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Kyle Rayner as a member of the Green Lantern Corps, uniting Sinestro, Larfleeze, Atrocitus, Star Sapphire, Indigo-1 and Saint Walker as The New Pips, with the six-issue mini-series focusing on their journey on the sinister Midnight Train to Georgia.

UPDATE: In the wake of this morning's announcement, creator Dean Trippe has leaked news of DC's follow-up to "Gladys Knight," still in the planning stages and scheduled to drop April 1, 2011:
