Gotham never exactly hid the fact that Cameron Monaghan’s “Jerome” was intended as a prequel stand-in of sorts for The Joker, but boy, if the final Season 3 episode until spring isn’t punctuating it with a bang. See for yourself in a “white-band” trailer for next week’s “The Gentle Art of Making Enemies,” as FOX finally confers a certain Joker name, amid all the madness.

Now that “Jerome” is officially back from the dead, re-attached face and all, Gotham dropped one majorly extended trailer for the laughing psychopath’s final (apparently Killing Joke-influenced) act. That said, even if no one actually calls him “Joker” within the hour itself (the promo’s text explicitly does), all the chaos and confusion might finally push Bruce over the edge into taking the life of his greatest foe.

So reads the “Gentle Art of Making Enemies” synopsis:

TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN ON THE ALL-NEW WINTER FINALE OF “GOTHAM” MONDAY, JANUARY 30, ON FOX

With Jerome (guest star Cameron Monaghan) on the loose with one target in mind, Bruce and Alfred’s safety is compromised. Meanwhile, Gordon’s uncle Frank (guest star James Remar) pays him a visit, and Nygma and Penguin are forced to confront their issues face-to-face, with possible deadly consequences in the all-new “Mad City: The Gentle Art of Making Enemies” winter finale episode of GOTHAM.

Remar is briefly visible in the footage above, but stay tuned for more on what might be Jerome’s big coming-out party when Gotham closes out January next week.
