While fans have been waiting patiently for some movement on the announced remake or reboot or new sequel or whatever-it-is from the Hellraiser film franchise, creator Clive Barker is moving ahead with his own plans with the help of BOOM! Studios. The publisher announced this week a new ongoing series based on the enduring horror property. The book will be co-written by Barker himself, making it one of if not the first Hellraiser projects he's been creatively involved with since the original Hellraiser film in 1987.

BOOM! will also release Hellraiser: Masterworks, reprinting previously published Hellraiser comics by creators including Larry Wachowski, Neil Gaiman, Mike Mignola, Kevin O'Neil and Alex Ross. Both titles go on sale in March 2011.

More information and art after the jump.Co-written by Barker and Christopher Monfette and featuring artwork by Leonardo Manco, BOOM! Studios' Hellraiser series will be "in-continuity."

"Beyond being a legendary creator of all things macabre, Clive Barker is truly an amazing individual and I'm proud to be able to work with him on reviving one of his most celebrated creations with HELLRAISER," said Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. "I've known Clive for years, but this is the first chance we've had to work together and I couldn't be more excited. It's been unbelievably gratifying to develop this series and witness the visceral, relentless, and shocking story that Clive has in store for a new generation of horror fans. Readers beware! Hell comes home this March!"

Hellraiser #1 ships with covers by Tim Bradstreet and Nick Percival. Hellraiser: Masterworks volume 1 comes with a cover by John Bolton.
