Bad news for all those hoping that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would take the lead role of Star Lord in Marvel Studios' Guardians of The Galaxy: He's decided to pass on the opportunity. He's staying with comic book movies with the project he'll do instead, though, signing on to star in the upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.Deadline reported yesterday that the actor had officially passed on Guardians on The Galaxy, opting instead for the Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller follow-up to their 2005 adaptation of Miller's popular noir comic series.

Gordon-Levitt will play "Johnny," a new role reportedly originally created for Johnny Depp, in the movie alongside returning cast members Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke and Rosario Dawson. The new movie has been described as both a prequel and sequel to the first movie, adapting both the comic book stories A Dame To Kill For and Just Another Saturday Night alongside two all-new stories written by Miller specifically for the movie.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is currently scheduled for an October 4 2013 release.
