Rosario Dawson’s ‘Luke Cage’ Role Is Much Bigger Than in ‘Jessica Jones’
As much as Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple has been confirmed as a go-between for Netflix’s Defenders, the superhero nurse’s Jessica Jones role proved far-less significant than Daredevil prior. We’ve seen Rosario shooting Luke Cage already, but star Mike Colter confirms Claire Temple will have a much more significant role this time around.
Consider yourself warned of a few Luke Cage spoilers from here on out, but many a comic fan will recognize Claire Temple’s origins as a love interest for Luke Cage, making her appearance in Netflix’s third Defender series a natural inclusion. Speaking to reporters at TCA (h/t IGN), series star Mike Colter stopped short of confirming what would bring Claire to Luke’s new Harlem setting (Claire’s mother, played by Sonia Braga seems a good bet), but at least offered that Rosario Dawson would play a much larger role:
She knows of me, obviously, from a personal standpoint, but it’ll be interesting to see because she will deal with me in a different way than she dealt with Matt Murdock … Because she plays a nurse that basically seems to be in the right place at the right time, and she’s very good at helping out superheroes who are in need, and I think you will see some of that in Luke Cage. Ultimately I think she’s going to be a very good companion for Luke. I think she’s someone that Luke needs in his life at this time. […]
She’s going to serve a very significant part of the Luke Cage story. Not overwhelmingly so, but you will definitely be satisfied with the amount of screen time you see. … I can’t speak to episode count, but you’re definitely going to see her. She’s definitely going to be someone that’s going to have a large storyline and help out a lot.
Thus far of Netflix’s Luke Cage, we know that Sons of Anarchy vet Theo Rossi will play “Shades” Alvarez, alongside Mahershala Ali’s Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard’s Mariah Dillard, Frank Whaley’s Detective Rafael Scarfe and Simone Missick’s Misty Knight. Marvel menace “Diamondback” has been rumored to appear, while Colter has previously spoken to the musicality and flashbacks of the series, which Cheo Hodari Coker will showrun.
