In this relatively golden era where toy aisles simultaneously stock movie-based action figures of The Avengers' most prominent heroes -- Captain America, Iron Man and Thor -- Hasbro has been pretty good about simultaneously keeping the comic book versions of "The Big Three" on store shelves. If you've been waiting for a more comprehensively packaged collecting option, however, the Toys "R" Us exclusive "Avengers Assemble" line may be your cup of 3.75" fully-articulated tea. The first wave of the line couples repainted Marvel Universe versions of Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Bucky Captain America with light-up bases that combine to form the first half of a circular S.H.I.E.L.D. platform. The toy packaging hints at the second wave that may or may not consist of another version of Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther and Hawkeye. It's no Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated line, but it's an okay supplement for now.

At around $20 a pop, the figures cost a little more than twice as much as the baseless Marvel Universe toys. If you dig the new line's paint apps and bases that's probably not going to be a huge issue for you, though.
