It's been five years since the worlds of the Marvel Universe and the numerous Capcom Universes collided. In that time, Marvel's comics have undergone a great deal of change, while Capcom's catalog has remained rather steady. In addition to the sweeping events in the pages of the comics, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has exploded since Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 hit shelves. It's no wonder then that rumors of a new entry in the series have surfaced ahead of PlayStation Experience, hinting that the worlds would collide once more, this time with a more cinematic bent.

According to Polygon, Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is expected to be announced this weekend at PlayStation Experience. The annual expo is now a major event for Sony, allowing fans and media to get first looks and hands-on experiences with the upcoming slate of games for the new year across the PlayStation brand. It's also been home to a few major announcements since it started in 2014, and it looks like it will have some big secrets to unveil again this year.

Though there's no leaked art or images at this time, Polygon's sources have hinted at what to expect from the upcoming sequel. Namely, more movie-centric characters on the roster. That means we could finally see the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and even more Avengers make a showing. Unfortunately, it also sounds like the X-Men are no longer going to be part of the equation. The X-Men have been part of Capcom's Marvel fighting games since 1994, but the video game rights to the mutants are as complicated as they've ever been. That said, that there were plenty in MvC 3 and reportedly none being in this update is a bit of a shocker.

Expect to see and hear more about Marvel vs. Capcom 4 in the coming days and weeks, but dash any hopes of seeing All-New Wolverine in the game alongside Groot.
