There are few superhero movies we here at ComicsAlliance are looking forward to more than Spider-Man: Homecoming. After years of trying, it seems like Sony and Marvel may have finally found the right combination of elements to make this franchise enjoyable again. Fortunately, that means any tie-in merchandise is actually going to be worth tracking down. Or maybe I should say it's unfortunate because my wallet is going to be feeling the pain if this new Medicom MAFEX Spider-Man is any indication the kind of amazing figures we're going to get for this movie.

The new Spider-Man has gotten an action figure already in a Marvel Legends Captain America: Civil War box set, but that wasn't a "clean" figure and it wasn't nearly as articulated as Medicom's upcoming effort. There's no official count of the articulation points on Medicom's site yet, but just from looking at the figure, we're talking about a Spider-Man with more than two dozen joints at the least. That means you can put him in all kinds of spectacular poses, including some iconic ones seen in Medicom's prototype photography.

Even though the joint breaks aren't all that hidden, this is arguably our best, clearest look at the Homecoming costume from nearly ever angle. There's a lot of nuance I didn't really take in before in the black piping elements, including the grips on his feet, and the seams on the blue portions of his legs. Not missing a beat, Medicom is including two different masked portraits as well, with one featuring wide-open eyes, and the other with squinting eyes. It's a nice touch for the new functional eyes the costume actually uses.

In addition to the two masked heads, there'll also be an unmasked head sculpt of Tom Holland's Peter Parker. It doesn't look bad, but the digital paint app makes his eyes and lips too translucent. I'd like a bolder paint app on there myself, but there's still plenty of time to fix that between now and when the figure ships this fall. He'll come with some alternate hands, as well as a sculpted, removed mask to hold. The webbing looks to be a simple attachment, which is all well and good, but it appears only one is being included with the figure. It would be great to see additional web blasts for different poses, especially at this price point, but it's certainly not a deal breaker.

The Medicom MAFEX Spider-Man: Homecoming Spider-Man figure is slated for release in October 2017, and will retail for ~$60.
