Mega Man Film Reportedly Being Made by 20th Century Fox

Rock, Roll, Dr. Light, Dr. Wily and all the robot masters are supposedly heading to Hollywood in a live-action Mega Man movie being made by 20th Century Fox.

The Tracking Board reports that 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are in the early stages of developing a live-action movie based on the Mega Man video game franchise. Chernin Entertainment's David Ready and Michael Finfer are reportedly overseeing the project as Peter Chernin produces it. Peter Chernin and Chernin Entertainment are known for producing 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes and last year's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which is a really good sign for Mega Man. Unfortunately, not much else is known about this project. While there are dozens of Mega Man sequels and spin-offs that this movie could use for its source material, we have a feeling the 1987 original game will likely have the most influence on the movie.

Dentsu Entertainment USA and Man of Action Studios have already announced a few months ago that they were working on a 26-episode-long animated series for Mega Man that is set to launch in 2017. Is Capcom green-lighting the movie and animated series to herald the Blue Bomber's big return to the gaming scene?

Don't forget that Mega Man co-creator Keiji Inafune's spiritual successor to the series, Mighty No. 9, is supposedly getting its own live-action movie as well as an animated series (which is kind of overkill for a game that isn't even out yet). Likewise, Comcept's Mega Man Legends-inspired Red Ash is getting its own anime feature. With Uncharted, Warcraft, Rampage and many other video game-based movies on the way, we just hope that Mega Man lives up to Rock's name. We're just glad to see someone has taken interest in bringing Rock, Roll, Rush and the rest of the gang to Hollywood.

Eddie Lebron and Olan Rogers made two very different Mega Man fan films (provided below) that prove the Blue Bomber definitely has what it takes to make it to the silver screen. Let's just hope whatever 20th Century Fox is planning, it's slightly less hokey than these two films. Nevertheless, we're sure all you Mega Man and Mega Man X fans out there will enjoy them.
