Cornelius Gets A Power Ring In ‘Planet Of The Apes/Green Lantern’ #1 [Preview]
Two great sci-fi properties come together next week with Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1. Written by Justin Jordan from a story by Robbie Thompson, with art by Barnaby Bagenda, this is the beginning of a six-issue miniseries that connects character from the Planet of the Apes movies to DC's Green Lantern mythology.
I wasn't sure exactly what version of Planet of the Apes I'd find in this book, but as a fan of the original movie I was relieved to see Cornelius and Nova, two main characters from that movie, in the preview. It appears that this story picks up sometime after the plot of that film, without worrying too much about the movie sequels and various other adaptations that have followed it.
The plot synopsis mentions Cornelius finding an ancient ring, so hopefully the images of the ape in a Green Lantern uniform on the various covers are at least somewhat literal. If you're going to bring these properties together, I want to see Cornelius as a GL, making giant green ape-hands with his ring.
Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #1 is out February 1, and features covers by Ethan Van Sciver, Steve Morris, Paul Rivoche, Felipe Massafera, David Ryan Robinson, and George Pérez.
Here's the official word from Boom and DC:
BOOM! Studios and DC Comics are proud to bring together two classic properties in a historic crossover event.
When Taylor goes missing, Cornelius investigates and discovers an ancient ring, unlike anything the universe has ever seen.
As its power echoes through the stars, the Guardians of the Universe must reveal to their Lanterns a secret they had hoped would remain buried.
With the Green Lantern Corps, led by Hal Jordan, racing to get to the source of this power before Sinestro can get his hands on it, they will discover a truth that will change them forever on…THE PLANET OF THE APES.
