‘Powers’ Season 2 Gets a New Retro Girl (and Slick New Credits) in First Clip
Time will tell if PlayStation’s Powers can succeed in Season 2 by leaning closer to its comic book roots, but the first clip is off to a flying start. Meet the new Retro Girl in town (the first one’s barely cold) in a new clip, as well as a look at the new comics-inspired opening credits.
Following a presentation at Emerald City Comic-Con, Powers released its first official Season 2 clip for the May 31 premiere, picking up with Calista revealing her new powers to a haunted Walker (Sharlto Copley). The end of the clip also reveals the PlayStation drama’s new opening credits, chock full of heroic imagery.
The second season of Powers will make the first three episodes available on May 31, free to PlayStation Plus members, beginning 12:01 P.M. PT. Subsequent episodes will debut each week, while the Season 2 synopsis reads:
Powers, an edgy dramatic series inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.”
Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?
The new season will delve into the storyline made famous by the first comic “Who Killed Retro Girl?” as the Powers Division investigates the shocking murder of the world famous superhero (played by Michelle Forbes) and the mysteries that her death uncovers.
In addition to casting Michael Madsen’s “Super Shock” and Tricia Helfer’s Agent Lange, Falling Skies alum Remi Aubuchon took up showrunning duties for the new season fulltime, while Ben Edlund (Supernatural, Angel, Firefly and creator of The Tick) will join the writing staff.
