Following on from its uber-successful Adventure Time line, Boom! Studios has announced plans to bring another Cartoon Network series to comics with the upcoming debut of a Regular Show ongoing written by K.C. Green (Gunshow), with art by Allison Strejlav.

Based on the cartoon created by JG Quintel about Mordecai the blue jay and Rigby the raccoon, two friends who work as groundskeepers in a park (even if actually doing their jobs is one of the furthest things from their minds), the new series is set to debut in April, with a Free Comic Book day story coming in May (as spotted by CA last month).

Talking to CBR
, Green said that He hoped to "do stories giving us more background of certain characters, like Muscle Man or Eileen and Margaret. Rigby and Mordecai are fun everymen -- just fun slackers to bounce weird happenings off of -- but there's more there to have fun with," but admitted that "it's still early and only some seeds of ideas are floating around in my head."

You can see an early piece of cover art by Adventure Time comic veteran Chris Houghton, plus a sketch by Green, below.
