If you've been patiently waiting for years to get the inside scoop of what actually happened behind the scenes on troubled superhero musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, your wait is almost over. The playwright who worked with Bono and the Edge to write the show has sold a book about his experience to Simon & Schuster.Glen Berger's Song of Spider-Man: The Inside Story of the Most Controversial Musical in Broadway History was purchased by the publisher yesterday, with executive vice-president Jonathan Karp telling the New York Times, "From the pages I've seen, I think it will be an insightful and entertaining account of the making of this musical."

Certainly, Berger has the material to make it juicy; he was originally hired by the show's original director Julie Taymor to co-write the book for the show very early in the process, before being replaced by the show's producers when Taymor was forced out of the production in order to make it more coherent and audience-friendly. Despite that, he is named as a defendant in Taymor's lawsuit against producers over her replacement, as he ended up working on the re-writes.

You can see him talk about the show in happier times here:

Song of Spider-Man is tentatively scheduled for release in 2013.
