The Mutanimals, that teams of misfit mutants from the TMNT animated universe is getting a new three-issue miniseries from writer Caleb Goellner and artist Chad Thomas, but they're not quite feeling themselves, it seems. That's because Baxter Stockman – the TMNT world's resident evil scientist – has turned them into robots! To mark the book's announcement, we had a quick chat with Goellner and Thomas about the Mutanimals, the differences between mutants and robots, and why Dr. Stockman would think this is a good idea.

Waking up and finding your entire home submerged in water feels like a classic nightmare scenario, but it actually happens to Donatello in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures #14. Of course, he and his three brothers live underground, so it's maybe a bit less shocking. And they're amphibious turtles, so it's considerably less deadly a scenario than it would be for most of us. In all honesty, the main thing that's going on here isn't that the New York Knicks' own Carmelo Anthony is appearing in a special issue of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Amazing Adventures comic where he ends up being mutated by the Foot Clan, even if that's what we're here to talk about today. No, for me at least, the big thing here is that somehow, this is not a thing that happens all the time. I mean, really! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around since 1984. You'd think that over the past 32 years, celebrities would be lining up around the block to team up with them! But then, maybe it's not that they don't want to. Maybe the Turtles have standards so high that you need to be the leading scorer on the United States Olympic Basketball team to get to hang out with Michelangelo. If you ever walked through the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles section of a toy store -- or if, just throwing this out there, you happened to be a kid in the late '80s who made sure to make a friend of dubious quality because he had all the action figures and video games you could ever want to play with -- then you probably already know that there's no shortage of mutants in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. Heck, there's even a few turtles in there diluting the brand! But even so, the ancient art of ninjitsu demands that the TMNT themselves remain hidden in the shadows, which is why it might be a problem when a newspaper starts reporting that there are giant mutant turtles out there fighting the Foot Clan - especially since they're not talking about the TMNT. You know things are pretty bad for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when Shredder, an evil ninja who is literally dressed in knives, is the least of their worries. That's the situation in the first issue of IDW's TMNT: Amazing Adventures, in which Cluckingsworth, a super-intelligent mutant chicken from their time at April O'Neil's family farm, has returned to New York City and is apparently bringing a whole lot of trouble with her. But while that is certainly a pressing concern, Landry Q. Walker, Chad Thomas and Heather Breckel's lead story isn't the only thing worth noting, because this is also the issue where we finally get to see the Ninja Turtles in a story by James Kochalka.

Here at ComicsAlliance, we've gone to bat pretty hard for IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, but the ongoing story in the comics isn't their only avenue for telling stories of mutant mayhem.
