February is an exciting month for DC Comics, with the launches of Justice League of America by Steve Orlando and Ivan Reis, Super Sons by Peter Tomasi and Jorge Jimenez, and Batwoman by Marguerite Bennett, James Tynion IV, and Steve Epting, and we have an exclusive first look at variant covers for all three first issues.

Over a decade ago, The Jim Henson Company announced plans to produce a sequel to the cult hit film The Dark Crystal, but those plans never materialized. Now, that might-have-been movie is being adapted into comics by Si Spurrier, Kelly Matthews and Nicole Matthews as a twelve-part miniseries adapted from the original screenplay titled The Power of The Dark Crystal.

Max Landis is a divisive figure in modern pop culture, to say the least. The son of acclaimed director John Landis, he burst on the scene as the writer of the found-footage film Chronicle, about three friends who gain immense superpowers and find their friendships tested. He’s also known for his online rants about how Rey from Star Wars is a Mary Sue, or defending the casting of Scarlett Johansson in Ghost of the Shell. So he’s a man with opinions who likes to share them. He also recently finished up his first miniseries at DC Comics, Superman: American Alien, backed up by an impressive roster of A-list art talent, including Nick Dragotta, Jae Lee and Jock. The series follows Clark Kent at various points in his life from childhood through to his early days as Superman, and takes a more grounded approach to the Man of Steel, but often skims and bounces off the ground a bit too hard.

We are quickly approaching the November 25 release date for Dark Knight III: The Master Race, Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello, Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson's eight-issue miniseries chronicling the final adventure of an older Batman. And, as is the way of things, there are going to be plenty of variant covers for collectors to get their hands on. In addition to the usual variants --- including the 1:5000 sketch variant by Jim Lee that was announced back in August --- there are also going to be retailer-specific covers.

The impending relaunch of Archie is almost upon us, and that can mean only one thing: variant covers, including retailer exclusives from some of the country's most prominent comic shops. Yes, when Mark Waid and Fiona Staples kick off their new take on Riverdale's favorite son next month, their story will be wrapped up in not one, not two, but seventeen different covers, each one made for a specific store.
