It's October, so that means it's time to peek into the spookier corners of comics, ones that star ghosts and goblins, devils and vampires, and that other one. That "Z" one. So this week we're taking a look at The Walking Dead, the smash multi-media sensation from Image Comics by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Find out what other zombie franchise was originally behind this comic, the lie that got the whole thing started, and the creepiest pieces of merchandise money can buy, as well as several other equally interesting facts.

Taking a queue from last year's New York Comic Con, Skybound Entertainment and McFarlane Toys will once again team to bring a fan-favorite character from Telltale Games' The Walking Dead universe to life in action figure form. Last year, we were treated to the first non-comic, non-television figure from The Walking Dead with the release of Clementine, the co-star and driving force behind The Walking Dead, Season 1 and the lead of The Walking Dead, Season 2. Now one year later, her guardian and zombie-killing mentor Lee Everett is making the jump off the screen. Even just seeing Lee here in his various states brings back memories that I'm not sure I need to feel on a rainy Friday afternoon. The dude went through a lot over the course of the first season of Telltale's episodic venture into Robert Kirkman's and Charlie Adlard's post-apocalyptic world. Since players were put into his shoes for a majority of the game, we went through those same trials and tribulations right with him. Some decisions are just too hard to make with a timer forcing your hand into a choice. The relationship between Lee and Clem was just a little too real. It still stings a bit knowing how that first season ended.

Much of the focus going into The Walking Dead Season 6 has honed in on new faces among the cast, rather than the downfall of Alexandria outright. It can’t be long before walkers breach the gates, but what about the latest trailer suggests a decidedly more human invasion within the walls?

By now, many of you have at least heard about the Walking Dead Escape, a traveling obstacle course of sorts themed around The Walking Dead. It's been regularly occurring in San Diego since 2012, with a few other adventures in Philadelphia, New York and Atlanta sprinkled in over the past few years. The Escape has been one of the big draws every year at San Diego Comic-Con for people looking to live out their wildest zombie apocalypse dreams. With it, fans can either participate as survivors hoping to make it out alive or be transformed into the undead by make-up veterans from the show, who then chase around the survivors. Now, the Escape is part of Walker Stalker Con, itself a crowdfunded convention that allows fans to meet and greet some of the stars from The Walking Dead (and other horror properties) all over the globe. This year alone, there will be Walker Stalker Cons in Boston, Philadelphia, New York, London and the Bahamas, to name a few. No longer content with just one zombie apocalypse interactive scenario for fans, Walker Stalker Con is kickstarting an all-new interactive experience to premiere at the "home" show in Atlanta this October.

Leading up to San Diego Comic-Con, I wondered what kind of special surprise Telltale might have in store for fans of its episodic adventure game, The Walking Dead. Based on the comic of the same name, we've had two seasons of zombie-fueled personal stories centered on the littlest survivor in the world, Clementine. Instead of vaguely teasing the upcoming third season, which won't be ready until 2016 at the earliest, or the upcoming Michonne mini-series, due later this year, Telltale took the opportunity to celebrate its landmark first season with a one-night only live performance. This event had actually been in the works for some time, with the original intent to have it happen as a way to kick off the launch of The Walking Dead, Season 2. Timing just couldn't be worked out, so this live performance sat on the back burner until this year's Walker Stalker Fan Fest over at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. There, at home plate, an inflatable movie screen stood tall over a tiny stage. As the sunlight faded behind the stadium, Telltale introduced the players, and we began our journey back to that fateful day when Lee and Clementine first crossed paths.

If you thought it was impossible for The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman to achieve any further Hollywood success, you'd be wrong. His Image Comics publishing imprint, Skybound Entertainment, has signed a two-year first-look deal with Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That means Universal has first dibs on adapting any Skybound project for film, including Kirkman's own work on titles such as Invincible and The Astounding Wolf-Man, and the work of other creators, such as Justin Jordan and Matteo Scalera's Dead Body Road and Joshua Williamson and Davide Gianfelice's Ghosted.

The Walking Dead writer (who debuted the series with artist Tony Moore) Robert Kirkman has taken one more step toward multimedia domination. His company, Skybound Entertainment, announced that it has hired Jon Goldman the former CEO of the video game company Foundation 9 Entertainment, to serve as a managing partner in charge of digital offerings and live events.
