The town of Springfield has conquered almost every medium: TV, video games, film, comics, home video, books, t-shirts, radio (if you have The Simpsons on while you look away from the TV), figure skating, etc.

And yet Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of Springfield's denizens hadn't made the jump to that all-important mode of expression, the Lego set, until now.

The Danish toy company announced today that a new series based on The Simpsons is coming next year, to coincide with the series 25th season. Lego spokesman and best-named-person Roar Rude Trangbaek did not offer up which characters would be part of the series, but told the Associated Press he hopes the series will "appeal to fans of the Simpsons family."

Lego's sales have been on the upswing in recent years, in large part because of licensed sets based on properties such as Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Marvel and DC Comics characters.

Until now the closest The Simpsons had come to having LEGO sets was getting a series of "Blocko" brick-style figures from Playmates a few years back, which themselves were an homage to the show's LEGO brick parody line. There's been rumors of a proper Simpsons line since March, but now that negotiations have been finalized, it should be interesting to see which sets LEGO launches the line with.
