Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasted little time introducing us to a fully-formed Ghost Rider, further evolving effects we’d seen through two prior movies. Now, Season 4 goes behind the scenes to show us the mo-cap creation of Gabriel Luna’s fiery Spirit of Vengeance, LED hood and all.

An intriguing new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featurette takes us from conception, to filming, to finished effect on the new Ghost Rider, which features actor Gabriel Luna in a motion-capture hood with lights to simulate a flaming glow on his leather jacket. The tracking points even help add a bit of expression to the skull, squashing and stretching the eye orbits.

If nothing else, they should be grateful they never had to deal with this guy.

It remains to be seen exactly how much of Ghost Rider we’ll see in the flesh (so to speak), as at least a few scenes from Tuesday’s premiere leaned back on the effects with simple glowing eyes for Luna himself. Regardless, the finished effect still looks pretty solid.

In the meantime, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 will continue its Ghost Rider bent with next week’s “Meet the New Boss,” the trailer for which you can find below.
