Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may not have had the cash to keep Ghost Rider alight for the whole of Season 4, but will they fare any better with a robot uprising? We’ll find out in the first clip from 2017 return “Broken Promises,” as the Life Model Decoys start fighting for the first part of their namesake.

ABC released the first official clip from next week’s 2017 premiere, in which it appears Director Mace made good on his insistence that Dr. Radcliffe shut down Aida (Mallory Jensen) after her assistance taking down Eli Morrow. That said, you know how it goes when one tries to shut down an increasingly-sentient machine.

So reads the synopsis for “Broken Promises”:

AGENT MAY’S DEADLY SECRET COULD DESTROY COULSON AND THE TEAM, ON ABC’S ‘MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.’

“Broken Promises” – Though Coulson and May are growing closer, Coulson remains unaware of the dark secret May is hiding beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Aida is unrelenting in her search for the Darkhold, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, JANUARY 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.

Guest starring are Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, Jason O’Mara as Director Jeffrey Mace, Mallory Jansen as Aida, Parminder Nagra as Senator Nadeer, John Pyper-Ferguson as Terrence Shockley, Manish Dayal as Vijay Nadeer, Patrick Cavanaugh as Burrows, Blaise Miller as Agent Nathanson, Shari Vasseghi as Sunjna Nadeer and Bryan Keith as Zack Bynum.

There’s every chance Ghost Rider (and his predecessors) could also resurface in the back half of Season 4, while 2017 will also bring us a Patriot episode, news on ABC’s forthcoming Inhumans series, and a potential fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

You can catch the first “Broken Promises” trailer for the 2017 return below, and stay tuned for more next week.
