If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

If you have ever needed evidence that Rob Liefeld is clearly a prescient genius, there can be no better sign than the fact that back in those paleolithic days before household internet was a common thing, he managed to create a superhero that feels designed specifically for Imgur. Deadpool's greatest power is not his healing factor or swords, but rather that he is a one-man meme-generating machine.

Anyway, here is a list of funny, cool, sad, or otherwise interesting scenes and events featuring Deadpool. This list tries to encompass a somewhat wider scope of Deadpool's history, so each writer/artist team is restricted to a single entry. Sorry if your favorite moment got left out, but, yes, you're right: I did it to slight you personally.

Show notes:

  • The most influential and arguably the best Deadpool run is his first ongoing series by Joe Kelly, Ed McGuinness, and other artists. That run is collected technically beginning in Deadpool Classic vol 1, but that volume only has the first issue of that series. Volume 2 is all material from that run. Volume 3 features the classic story ranked on this list.
  • The Gail Simone/Udon Studios run of Deadpool, including Agent X, is collected in Deadpool Classic vol 9 and 10.
  • For Cable and Deadpool together, grab the Cable and Deadpool Omnibus, which includes the story from this video.
  • To see the first Deadpool/Hawkeye team-up, check here. For their continued friendship/rivalry/whatever, check here.
  • The current Deadpool series starts here, but the story mentioned in this video, regarded by some as the best Deadpool story ever, is here.
