Riding the shield-slinging Captain America: The Winter Soldier promotional blitz that kicked off on Sunday, Gameloft has released its first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The Official Game. Headed to iOS, Android and Windows 8 mobile devices on April 4 -- the same day the movie opens -- the new game promises "an original blend of combat action and flexible tactical options." The trailer is more straightforward, though, and simply shows Captain America smashing faces.

Much like Gameloft's Thor: The Dark World: The Official Game, the new Captain America sequel tie-in will have players lead as Cap, followed by NPC characters -- in this case, "an elite team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents." Who are they fighting? It's not exactly clear, although Gameloft's official press release says there'll be "multiple Marvel villains involved in a sinister global plot." Obviously the Winter Soldier is involved, but like many movie tie-ins, this game promises familiar faces from Marvel comics will appear as part of an original story inspired by the film that's co-written by unspecified minds from Marvel.

In addition to the game's standard play mode, it will allow players to "join clans in multiplayer mode and to compete for a higher position in leagues." Gameloft doesn't specify whether this is achieved by playing as Cap or as one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. grunts, though.

With the precedents set by Gameloft's previous Marvel movie games, fans can probably expect a "freemium" experience from Cap's mobile outing, complete with the usual in-game currencies (that you can earn in standard gameplay or shell out extra for if you're impatient) used to acquire things like combos, alternate costumes and other bonuses. Screens will probably surface before long fleshing out the finer details.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: The Official Game arrives on April 4.
