Titan Comics

Of all the shocking announcements that came out of this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the one that surprised me the most is that the first comic out of Titan's upcoming Hammer Horror line is The Mummy. Don't get me wrong, Hammer produced four Mummy movies between 1959 and 1971 --- including the awesomely titled Blood From The Mummy's Tomb --- and that's four more Mummy movies than most people made. Still, I would've bet the farm on leading off with Dracula. But then, I suppose I always do. Either way, the line is starting off with an all-new story of Ancient Egyptian horror from Peter Milligan and Ronilson Freire, with a cover by John McCrea. Are you currently fulfilled with the amount of comics starring sharks in your life? I didn't think so. Thankfully, that void in your soul is going to be filled this December with the revival of the cult British series Hookjaw by Titan Comics. The series once deemed too controversial for British newsagents is getting a 21st-century makeover later this year, courtesy of Si Spurrier, Conor Boyle, Giulia Brusco and Rob Steen.

Assassin's Creed has proved to be a very dependable franchise for Titan Comics, and as announced at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, the publisher will be adding another title to its growing slate of comics based on the Ubisoft video game franchise. However, rather than an all-new original story, Assassin's Creed: Awakening is a translation of Yano Takashi and Oiwa Kenji's manga.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that I am super into both giant transforming robots and epic battles in outer space. But despite the fact that I'm squarely in the Venn diagram for the appeal, I've never really gotten into Robotech. It always seemed like something that I missed my chance to really dive into when I was younger. But now, it looks like I'm getting another chance. Thursday night at San Diego Comic Con, Titan Comics showcased art for its planned Robotech comics series in partnership with Harmony Gold USA, with pieces from Caspar Wijngaard, Luis Guerrero, Mariano Laclaustra, and Antonio Fuso. We don't know anything else at this point, but while we try to untangle the mysteries of the new Robotech series, we at least have some pretty art to look at.

Titan Comics is not only putting out some of the best licensed comics of the moment right now; it's looking far and wide for licenses and partnerships to cater to every fan of every genre. From Assassin’s Creed to Doctor Who to Hammer Horror, Titan likely has at least a few genres and licenses that you’re interested in, and it has just revealed a major new partnership that will offer up a new line of comics. Titan is partnering with the iconic publisher Hard Case Crime to introduce a new line of noir and crime comics starting this year. The new line of comics under the Hard Case Crime banner includes work by the legendary director Walter Hill, celebrated crime authors Christa Faust and Gary Phillips, and a comic book adaptation of Max Allan Collins’ Quarry.

Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs and premiering in the October 1912 issue of pulp magazine The All-Story, Tarzan of the Apes has become one of the most well-known heroes in fiction. He's been in hundreds of films, novels and video games, with the latest film, The Legend of Tarzan, hitting theatres this past weekend. But Tarzan has perhaps cast his biggest shadow in comics. Spanning newspaper strips, comic books and webcomics under a rainbow of comics greats, Tarzan has been a steady presence in the medium for almost 90 years.

The Assassin's Creed franchise is slowly taking over the world, from video games to novelizations to the upcoming feature film starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Titan Comics' line of Assassin's Creed comics has been going from strength to strength as well, and the publisher is adding another title to the line in the form of Last Descendents: Locus.

Alan Martin & Jamie Hewlett’s iconic andd irreverent Tank Girl has undergone a sort of second coming in recent years thanks to Titan Comics, and that revival shows no sign of slowing down. Titan has announced a new miniseries titled Tank Girl: Gold due out this September by Martin and Brett Parson, which picks up right where the current series leaves off.

Titan Comics has proved itself one of the premier publishers for licensed comics of late, with properties such as Doctor Who, Dark Souls and Assassin’s Creed. Another much beloved property joins the Titan family early next year as the publisher has partnered with television production company Harmony Gold USA to bring beloved anime Robotech to comics.
