While other sites may be content to bring you Rocktober, Shocktober or Mohawktober, ComicsAlliance is committed to commemorating the things that really matter! That's why this month, we're bringing you 31 days of the World's Greatest Detective (1887 - 1939) as we celebrate Sherlocktober!DID YOU KNOW...

  • Sherlock Holmes was known for his incredible knowledge of minutiae and attention to detail, which has made him the patron character of people who complain about comic books for a living. Seriously, that dude would be the most annoying continuity cop ever.
  • Despite his enduring popularity in 125 years of books, movies and television, Sherlock never took hold in comics like his fellow public domain icon Dracula did. Obviously, bats are the key to success in the world of super-heroes, especially for detectives.
  • Speaking of, although he starred in a one-shot adapting The Final Problem with a cover by Walter Simonson back in 1975 (pictured above), Sherlock's biggest appearance in the DC Universe was in Detective Comics #572, a team-up with Batman, Slam Bradley and the Elongated Man where it was revealed that he lived to well over a hundred years of age because of "a certain distillation of Royal Jelly developed in my beekeeping days, and the rarified atmosphere of Tibet." This is apparently the cure for a lifelong heroin addiction and occasionally falling off a waterfall.

Join us tomorrow for more Sherlocktober celebrations!
